Supermarkets and Suppliers’ Protocol with the Gangmasters Licensing Authority – Best Practice Guide
The Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA) was set up to protect workers by licensing labour providers in the agriculture, shellfish gathering and food processing and packaging sectors. Labour users and suppliers have an important role to play in making sure workers continue to be fairly treated through their day-to-day contact with labour providers and workers. This guide sets out the legal requirements for labour users as well recommended best practice. This guide is supported by the major food retailers and supplier representatives and is updated as and when laws and best practice change.

ILO report: Profits and Poverty: The Economics of Forced Labour
The study investigates the underlying factors that drive forced labour, of which a major one is illegal profits. Figures include a breakdown of profits by area of forced labour and by region.
ILO Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions Reports
The Committee publishes annual reports that assess countries on compliance with ILO conventions, including conventions that relate to forced labour. The reports are an accurate and current reflection of the situation in a particular country and spotlight the worst cases for examination by the annual International Labour Conference.
ILO Global Estimates on Forced Labour
In 2012, the ILO published new estimates on the extent of forced labour in the world. The organisation uses robust methodology to identify and assess prevalence of forced labour.

US Department of Labor Child and Forced Labour Reports
The US Department of Labor publishes three reports documenting the current global situation of child labour, forced labour and forced child labour and includes lists of goods produced by child labour, forced labour and forced child labour.
The issuance of the US Presidential Executive Order “Strengthening Protections Against Trafficking in Persons in Federal Contracts” is an acknowledgement that as the largest purchaser of goods and services in the world, the US Government has a responsibility to combat human trafficking at home and abroad.
