Please join us for an online launch of a joint ETI - PILER report on labour standards in the manufacture of surgical instruments in Pakistan. We will provide updates on the impact of Covid-19 to the sector, and set out a Road Map for the way forward.
Speakers will include representatives from PILER, the ETI, business suppliers, international buyers, government officials and the ILO. There will be time for questions and comments.
Information about the Report:
The report is based on a multi-stakeholder initiative to tackle child labour and improve labour standards in Pakistan's surgical instruments sector. High-quality instruments are exported from Pakistan for health centres around the world. Yet they carry high risks for workers, businesses and public bodies who purchase them. A significant proportion of manufacturing is in the informal economy where working conditions are poor and child labour is evident. The report is a summary of four detailed studies into working conditions in the sector, stakeholder and value chain analyses. There are recommendations for how to improve conditions for the benefit of all stakeholders.
