The purpose of this round table is to consult London-based stakeholders in garment supply chains reaching South Asian workers about challenges and possible solutions to improve working conditions in the lower rungs of the labour supply chain, including: (1) service and piece rate workers, (2) daily wage contractors, (3) monthly wage workers (4) and fixed-term migrant workers. The agenda will include a discussion of the different types of challenges and their interdependency, an analysis of how international labour standards apply in these specific contexts, followed by a panel discussion on possible steps to address identified challenges.
This round table is part of the Work in Freedom Programme, a UK funded multi-stakeholder initiative managed by the ILO to reduce vulnerability to forced labour in garment and domestic work in South Asia and the Middle East.
