There is a lot of talk nowadays about due diligence in light of the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, new legislation and EU Directives. But what do we mean by due diligence, and do we see it differently depending on whose interests we represent?
At this session we discussed questions such as: is due diligence is about conducting human rights risk assessments? third-party audits? is there a role for trade unions and workers themselves in monitoring or verifying company due diligence? what’s the role of investigative journalists and civil society watchdogs? What is ‘good enough’ or ‘good’ due diligence?
