One of the Nalam spinning mills where employs more than 300 female workers. 80% of them are non-residential workers who live up to 40km away who rely on the free transport facilities provided by the management.
Workplace absenteeism was an issue at the mill, with production affected. Managers asked peer educators to try and determine the reasons and also look into reports of overcrowding on vehicles.
They discovered that workers from a particular village were regularly absent due to severe overcrowding. The management provided a new vehicle to collect and drop-off at this particular village. Absenteeism has dropped, and more workers are being recruited from this village.
