Today the Employment Rights Bill reached the Committee stage of the UK Parliament. ETI welcomes the draft Bill including its core provisions on trade union rights, which are in line with the ETI Base Code and the UN ILO’s wider standards.
As a tripartite organisation made up of companies, NGOs and trade unions, ETI works to ensure respect for human rights in global supply chains. We know that mature industrial relations bring significant benefits to workplaces, including better working conditions as well as a more engaged and productive workforce.
We also welcome the Bill’s inclusion of a plan to create a single ‘Fair Work Agency’, bringing together the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority and the Director of Labour Market Enforcement, with powers to uphold and enforce workers’ rights and protections.
Collaboration between the private sector, civil society and trade unions remains crucial. ETI brings together these parties to help understand and mitigate human rights risks in supply chains. Our members hold significant expertise and offer an important voice on these issues, and we will support their direct engagement with government.
